Superman's Not Brave

"Superman's not brave. You can't be brave if you're indestructible. It's every day people, like you and me, that are brave knowing we could easily be defeated but still continue forward." -Unknown

Superman's Not Brave

I found the above quote on the Internet today by mistake. i really enjoyed it. It is us everyday people that are brave and we don't realize it. Each one of us has something in our mind that we overcome every day in some way. Two weeks ago I could have easily been defeated when my knee dislocated and tore a muscle. Instead I have a panel of good people I have met with and said what do I need to do to get back as soon as possible. So today I continue forward. It was another great day of rehabbing my knee. 40 minutes of Yoga and strength training and then my skin treatment application. I honestly feel like I will be back to jogging by Monday. time will tell but i am healing fast and working the area hard. It is hard it is a day spent with exercise, hot baths, ice baths, stretching and then ice packs at night.

Miles for Miracles

After today's figures. So far we have raised $2560 for Miles for Miracles. Many people and places sent checks and they take 7-10 to show up on the website. That is why some things show up late on the Boston site. I am more excited to have raised almost $3000 then I am to run in the event. Thank you all for your support!

I May Be Down But Not Out

“History teaches us that the great revolutions aren't started by people who are utterly down and out, without hope and vision. They take place when people begin to live a little better - and when they see how much yet remains to be achieved.”

I May Be Down But Not Out

I remain optimistic despite the crazy week. The car was acting funny again so I took it in to the shop. I was told that they had a problem with who did my inspection? Then I told them that they did it. Dead silence fell over the room. I then found out that the person that inspected my car was fired according to them, "30 minutes" after I left. So my car was just passed on by and then when that tire blew out last week it was an indication of something going on. We could have nearly been killed because of their idiocy. Anyways it's still being fixed. Today I had a grad paper to do and then some yoga and strength training on my knee rehab. All went very well in that area. I applied the DMSO that Dr. Landers told me about and that was some interesting stuff. Smelled like rotten milk and burned my knee a bit. I don't condone using this stuff. Then the muscle stiffened up tremendously and then relaxed. Right now it feel really good and I am praying I'll be at least back to jogging for the Tipp Hill Run. So I may be down but I am not out. I will work my ass of to get back and run Boston. Only 9 weeks to go so time is of the essence. So I know what still remains to be achieved. The more important goal I set out on was running to raise money for those sick children and I am almost there! I have only $440 more dollars to raise in order to meet my goal! Very exciting!

That's
all for today! It is only up from here!

Why This Shop Is Not Folding

Why This Shop Is Not Folding

Well a visit to Dr. Brian Landers yesterday proved what I was thinking. Dislocation in my kneecap and a problem with my tibia. Seems to be rotating in and out. So for now running is all but over. However I am still running Boston. There is a 6 hour time limit and I can make that limit with a torn knee. I am a bit disappointed because 2 weeks ago I felt like I was running this best I ever had been. I think it is moments like now that define who you are? Do you fold up shop or do you keep moving forward? Well my shop isn't folding and I will fight to get to that finish line even if it is 2 hours slower than I was training for. It's not about the speed for me. It is about bringing home that goal of raising funds and awareness for those sick children that attend that hospital. So far I have reached $2550 of that $3000 goal! To me that is worth more than any times run in a race!

I want to thank everyone for the support for the children and those who have been supporting projects of ours! Thank You so much!

Obstacles May Slow Me Down But Will Not Stop Me

"The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it." -Moliere

Obstacles May Slow Me Down But Will Not Stop Me

Yesterdays run was easy. I just ran 2.15 miles easy to see how the knee felt. My worst fears are coming true only nine weeks before Boston. My left knee has developed what is called, "Runners Knee." It is basically in a nutshell the breaking down of cartilage under the knee cap. You also don't think of blood flowing through the knee but it does change that as well. Right now I can not bend it or I can't get up. Do I feel a bit down after all the work I put into training? Yeah a little but hey I have 6 hours to run Boston as a time limit. If the knee gives out I tie it up and push on until the finish line is crossed. My dreams of running for competitive time will be put on hold for the time being. I set out on this course to do this to raise money for sick children. Children like Zack Saurini that had surgery at Boston Childrens Hospital. I will beat that goal first and foremost and that is the most important to me! It's not about how fast you are, it's about what you do with the talent that you are given!

Passing the Pebbles in the Path/ 2 Benefits Coming Up

"Nobody trips over mountains. It is the small pebble that causes you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain." ~Author Unknown

Passing the Pebbles in the Path

Well today was supposed to be another day of rest for me but I decided heck with it. I can't let the pebble that tripped me up last week take me down. I am going to have to come back slowly and be ready for whatever is left in the tank come Boston time. I would be a liar if I didn't say I was a bit discouraged at my knee. It always lets me down. Two weeks ago I was doing runs and feeling good at a 6:20 mile per minute pace through ice storms. Today it felt awkward to run but I was able to get back into my slower pace. I am hoping this will be broom I need to sweep the pebbles away. There are around 50 days until the Boston Marathon. I will be maximizing each hour of each day in order to make Boston a fun experience.

Thank You For Helping A Strong Will My Friend

The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't. ~Henry Ward Beecher

Thank You For Helping A Strong Will My Friend

Well I talked to an old friend today for the first time in many years. I won't discuss the nature of their illness without their permission but I will just say I was very emotional after the call. I wasn't going to come back to running till Monday because of safety precautions for my knee. Aft
er that phone call I felt renewed life. I didn't think about the pain. I imagined how my friend must feel being in a wheelchair and that I am blessed with working legs. They go on vacation from time to time but still working! So I put on my new running shoes and went and battled the conditions. My feet were all over the place and I couldn't find a stride but a strong will pushed me through it thinking of my friend. The knees feel much better. Still a bit rusty from the tear but I am back none the less and I will not stop until I hit that finish line in Boston. I have realized that it isn't about how fast you run! It is about the journey and how many wonderful people you meet and run with along the way. I would trade speed for saving a life any day!

Here are a couple pics from my cold and icy run on the trail today! Yep I ran with a camera!
