Note To Self: We Can Finally Breathe

Note to Self: We Can Finally Breathe

NO fancy quotes today. I am just writing myself a note about how good it feels to breathe again. Since Kaylei was born in 2001 and then Braeden in 2003, I felt like we never had a chance to breathe. Kaylei with her kidney issue for the first two years of life and then Braeden with the Surgery. Never did we get a chance to thank the wonderful doctors for saving his life! Thank you Dr. Tatum and Dr. Kristamurphy.(I know I misspelled it) It seemed like every time we would surface for air something would push us back under. I thought that the car accident three weeks before Christmas of 2007 was the end all. I blamed myself for my daughter getting hurt. The accident gave me severe PTSD's. So bad I couldn't attend running events. The first event I attended again was the labor day classic in Auburn. Before that I had given up. Beat up from the years in the hospital with the children, my own illness, and then the car accident. I really didn't think we would ever have a chance to breathe. My daughter showed me that Christmas what it is like to finish a goal even though you are hurt mentally and physically. I was truly inspired by her finishing her reading goal on that day. Not a day has gone by that I haven't remembered what it felt like. My intentions with Therun4life.org have been nothing but the best. What started out as a small idea and an informational website has grown ten fold today. Though I still wish I had a clue what to do with it! I still don't have the proceeds to make it an official non-profit, that is why I run for other 501c3 places. This year though I did at least make it an official business. I have prided myself of never taking one cent for us and only for a cause. I had my generous friends in Florida offer to bail us out when we were losing everything last month. I told them to donate to the cause and that I cannot accept one cent for us. It is just who I am. I learned and taught a valuable lesson over the last couple months. That you don't need millions of dollars in the world. All you need are your family and good friends. My children and I have had some of the best moments in life of late because we truly learned what it fees like to have fun and breathe again. These are the steps that I wish upon the Saurini family. I know they don't know us all that well but we feel intrigued by their story. We feel inspired by Zack's story and the truly positive spirit he possesses. To you my friends I will box up some air for you. You truly do deserve to breathe! So as I write this note to myself, I feel happy that we now have two healthy children #1! I am also happy that we got our taxes back and my money to attend grad school. We can have our life back and be confident that we will have a house over our head and good friends to invite over within it. It has been taxing these years in school but I truly believe this year will pay off and that we have learned together as a family a valuable life lesson. I know that I am just an average guy trying to change the world, but today for once I feel like I am on top of it! Thank you all for your support over the last couple months! Without all of my friends and I mean YOU! I wouldn't be where I am today!

16 Round Prize Fight

"There would be no passion in this world if we never had to fight for what we love." -Susie Switzer

Today's run felt like a 16 round prize fight to me because of battling the flu. So I decided to write a poem about it within the 10 minutes after I finished!

16 Round Prize Fight

As I took to the roads today
With my salt laden running shoes
The cold air wisps my nose
No longer do I feel the blues

Each Mile like a round
In a championship prize fight
The first four rounds were easy
I was feeling just Right

As I boxed further into the match
Through rounds seven and eight
I could feel the sickness & fatigue in my veins
The positive energy kept me feeling great

I played rope-a-dope
Through rounds nine and ten
Keeping a constant pace
Saving energy because I have a message to send

Fighting deep into rounds thirteen and fourteen
I have my opponent where I want them now
Backed against the corner
It's time to show them how

Entering into the last Round sixteen
I picked up the pace and fought as hard as I could
It's time for one last push
From the little engine that could

As the bell sounded
and I hit the finish line
I had the eye of the tiger for one more day
This moment of victory (how very small) was all mine! (GET WELL ZACK!)

Wrote today after my 16 miler by Vin Gleason....man I am tired now!
P.S. Thanks to the guy who yelled the f-Bombs today. Nice to see the maturity of young adults in Auburn! Thanks for helping me run harder!

Please Put Zack in Your Thoughts This Week

" If we live our lives as a gift it is possible to reach a blissful state of eternal happiness. It is those who live their life with a sense of entitlement that undermine peace , freedom and liberty. Know that every breath is a miracle and every moment a blessing and you will achieve your dreams." -Michael Teal

All It Takes is a Spark/ Our Thoughts for Zack

"Without inspiration the best powers of the mind remain dormant, they is a fuel in us which needs to be ignited with sparks." -Johann Gottfried Von Herder

All it Takes is a Spark

When I was away at grad school last week I really thought back to late August and early September. I felt defeated. I had lent my resources to everyone and everything and felt like I had accomplished nothing in our vision. Labor day had rolled around and I was only 4 weeks into my rehab for a stress fracture in my foot. I think that week was the spark I needed. At the time people were asking me to run for a child or a cause. I ran in 3 races injured in 9 days for different causes. My foot didn't feel all that bad, so I kept going. Then about a month later I found out I got into the Boston Marathon. So the spark was ignited and literally grew into a bonfire. I am not encouraging you to do something hurt because not all of us can do that. However I am encouraging you to find something that will ignite that spark in your life. No matter whatever it may be. Keep on trying and eventually it will happen! Sometime each day there is a little thing that you can hold onto and use it to make your day much better!

Our Thoughts For Zack

Right now as I type the Saurini's are making their way to Boston. Zack will be undergoing surgery on February 4th. I really hope that all my friends and family can set aside some time this week and put the little boy in your thoughts. I am thinking of setting up an online fundraiser for him. If anyone is interested contact me.

Good 16 Mile Run After the Layoff

"I still need more healthy rest in order to work at my best. My health is the main capital I have and I want to administer it intelligently." -Ernest Hemmingway

Good 16 Mile Run After the Layoff

Well I felt pretty darn good out there today. The weather was great and I could wear lighter clothes. I can tell that all the weight I have been carrying in the winter really helped. I finished the two loops of 8 miles each for a total of 16 miles. My overall time was very good for me at 2:05:04. I guess that the layoff for school really was the rest the doctor ordered. Apparently for the first time I administered in intelligently.

Enjoy Your Super Bowl tonight!
Go Arizona!
